Every time I go into the practice I learn something new. Whether it's contacting patients in the database or reading prescriptions. I'm being taught the skills needed to work in the real life situations that can occur in the workplace. It's great experience and exposure to what could happen.
There are many different sides of the practice that all have different jobs. The opticians at the front of the house fit people for glasses. Our receptionists check all the patients in and conduct all the behind the scenes paperwork like insurance. The Licensed Dispensary Opticians shape the lenses for frames and make sure the patients glasses are exactly how they want them. Then, there is the optometrists who actually conduct the eye exams and diagnose the patients. All of these fields are above interesting. I'm so intrigued by all of the different aspects and responsibilities of each job. Once I️ learned how to pretest all the patients, it took a lot of pressure off the managers and doctors. It gave them an extra person to get what needed to get done. I️ set the phoropter and wipe everything down in between appointments, which helps the doctors so they don’t have to do it during the appointment, saving time. I️ have learned to order contacts and stock them which helps the entire staff, so they do not have to worry about it when it’s super busy. |
