MY PROFILE:
My name is Kristina. I go to Forsyth Central High School. As the time for college keeps getting closer, it has forced me to plan ahead and start looking towards the future. I have always known that I wanted to do something medical. At first, I thought being a PA was the way to go; however, I did not want to attend medical school. Optometry was the best medium. It had the medical aspects I was looking for, and it was a unique profession that people don't normally think of.

MY MENTORSHIP:
Through the Honors Mentorship Program, I was able to get an internship with Complete Family Eyecare(CFE) and work with Dr. Krishan Bhima. At CFE, they conduct comprehensive eye exams, ddiagnose and treat ocular disease and injury, Co-management for refractive (LASIK) and cataract surgeries, and digital retinal imaging. As of right now, my basic duties include: IOP and auto refraction pretesting, stocking contacts, and patient charting. It has been a wonderful experience to be a part of the team and learn so much!

MY FUTURE:
Next year, I plan on attending college at either a university in Georgia or in a nearby state. I plan to major in biomedical sciences and join a pre-optometry program. By participating in this mentorship, it has given me real life experience that I can use when I'm in optometry school. It's the little things that I have picked up along the way that will help me in the future. In addition to the optometry education, this program has helped me gain better communication and people skills. |
